Steamboat Software, Inc. was founded in Los Angeles in 1998
as a high-end
software and consulting firm.
In response to the limited features and dated technology of the other
rendering programs available on the market,
SSI designed and developed Jig -- SSI's flagship rendering software. Jig, launched in July 2000, won the Computer
Graphics Innovation Award for 2000.
Jig is a high-quality, production-oriented 3D renderer that provides a
comprehensive, yet inexpensive solution for rendering traditional geometry,
photo-realistic hair, volumes, particles and cartoon-style rendering. Although primarily developed on and for the Linux operating system, the
software also operates on the SGI and Windows NT/2000/XP platforms, with development
plans for Mac OSX. Designed to be scalable,
Jig performs well on both modest workstations as well as large rendering
clusters. Notable Visual Effects companies have already proven Jig v1.5
to be robust and production ready. Check out our production Credit
section!
With Jig, SSI has solved many long standing rendering issues with quality
output of Hair, Smoke (Volumes) and Skin through application of proprietary
technology. Overall, SSI eases the fragile production process by providing an exceptionally
open "built-from-scratch" rendering system with total flexibility and ease
of use in mind, while raising the bar on quality.
Steamboat Software will release the next version of their award winning
software Jig in late 2003. Check out the Upcoming
Features section for details!
